Weather Alert

Significant Winter Storm Possible From Monday Night Through Tuesday

An area of low pressure will track to our south through Monday.  Some light snow should develop through Monday afternoon and evening as a result.  The low pressure will then rapidly intensify off of the Northeast coast Monday night and Tuesday.  Uncertainty remains as to the exact track of this low pressure, but if it tracks close enough to the coast, portions of the area could see a significant snowfall.

Adopt a cat for free at 'Free Feline Friday'

MENANDS -- The Humane Society is holding an event to help dozens of cats find their forever homes!

Today is Free Feline Friday at the Menands shelter, which means every cat 6 months and older are free to adopt!  Kittens up to 6 months old will be $25.

If you can't make it to Menands, you can stop by the Society's three satellite locations: the PetSmart stores in Glenmont and Latham and the Petco in Clifton Park.

Every cat ready for adoption has been spayed or neutered, vaccinated for distemper and rabies, tested for feline leukemia, de-wormed, and treated with flea and tick preventative. All animals are eligible for 30 days of pet insurance
"Over 75 cats and kittens found new homes during our 4-day Feline Fest and we were absolutely delighted with response from our community," stated MHHS Executive Director Brad Shear.  "However, as of today, we still have 336 cats and kittens in our care. They are here in Menands, at our three satellite locations and in foster care.  At this time last year, we were caring for 251 cats and kittens. That means we are looking at a 33% increase. We are dedicated to giving each and every feline the very best care possible and that means finding new homes for them as quickly as possible. We are still in "kitten season" so more cats and kittens will be coming in tomorrow, the next day and for the rest of the summer.  Anyone looking for a pet should check our website to see who is available and ready to go to a new home. It's updated instantly."
The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, founded in 1887, is the largest animal protection agency in New York's Capital Region and serves as the SPCA for Albany and Rensselaer Counties, investigating and prosecuting cases of animal cruelty. The Society, located at 3 Oakland Avenue in Menands, is open for adoptions seven days a week, Monday through Friday from 10AM to 6PM, Saturday from 10AM to 5PM and Sunday 1PM to 4PM.  In addition, cats are available for adoption at the Society's satellite locations at the PetSmart stores in Glenmont and Latham as well as the Petco store in Clifton Park.
