Tractor trailer crashes, spills battery acid on Northway

CLIFTON PARK -- The driver of a tractor trailer was hospitalized after crashing the rig on the Northway Tuesday night.
According to State Police, the truck hit the median on the northbound side of the Northway around exit 8A just before 11 p.m.
Used car batteries were being transported and several of them burst during the crash, spilling battery acid on the roadway.
The driver was taken to Albany Med for internal pain.
Police are still investigating what caused the trucker to hit the median.
Traffic has been slow going in that area since the crash happened. As of noon on Wednesday, traffic continues to be backed up because DEC is still cleaning up battery acid.
