AARP holds NY conference about givers' crisis
ALBANY (AP) -- Several advocates for the elderly and for health care will meet to find ways to combat a crisis of overstressed family caregivers.
The influential state advocate AARP and Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York, among others, are holding a symposium Monday in Albany. They seek ways to help caregivers with the isolation, depression, financial problems and stress they encounter in caring for elderly or disabled relatives.
AARP ranks New York 48th among states in terms of providing support to caregivers
The event is part of AARP's statewide tour to collect ideas that could be pushed in the next regular legislative session in Albany which begins in January.
AARP says family caregivers save New York $32 billion annually.
The morning session will be at the Hilton Garden Inn in Albany.
