Patchy areas of light snow wil persist through the evening with brief localized bursts of moderate snow possible through 8pm.  Additional snow accumulations will be spotty and light, generally 1" or less through the evening.  The cold air in place will continue to support slow and slippery travel conditions with less traveled roads, parking lots, and sidewalks remaining snow covered through the night.

Erie Canal to reopen to allow boaters to pass

CANAJOHARIE (AP) -- Boaters stranded on the Erie Canal because of emergency repairs at a Mohawk Valley lock will have a three-day opportunity next month to resume their voyages on the waterway.

The state Canal Corp. says the canal between Lock E-12 in Tribes Hill and E-14 in Canajoharie will reopen starting at 7 a.m. Oct. 4 and continuing until 8 p.m. Oct. 6.

That stretch of the canal has been shut down since last week for emergency repairs at Lock E-13 in Montgomery County. Canal officials say the construction company doing the repairs has scheduled the three-day break in the work.

The canal will close again Oct. 6 for final repairs that are expected to take several weeks.

Some boaters remain moored at the waterway's eastern terminus in Waterford, north of Albany.
