Father who lost son in fire, dies in car crash

NORTH GREENBUSH - A devastating two car accident has claimed the life of a Poestenkill man and seriously injured another.

On Thursday at around 1:50 p.m. police say 64-year-old John Hover crossed into the oncoming lane on an s-turn on Route 43, colliding with a car driven by Jean Eldred,66, of West Sand Lake.

Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and required extrication from the Defreestville and Wynantskill Fire Departments. Both were transported to Albany Medical Center.

Hover later died from his injuries, Eldred is in serious condition.

"This is the second serious accident we've had in this portion of the S-turns of Route 43 in the last 45 days and in both cases, a motorist crossed into the on-coming lane causing the collision.  Mr. Hover is also the father of Devin Hover who recently died in a house fire in Poestenkill on Sunday", said Chief Robert Durivage.
