Bomb Threat Creates Chaos

It was a chaotic morning at an area elementary school it that could have been avoided.

Parents were calling the CBS 6 newsroom this morning, complaining and concerned about the chaos in and around Yates Elementary school, when the district ordered an evacuation after a bomb threat.

When students arrived at Yates, some were allowed in and some were not.  The district had just heard from Schenectady police that there'd been a bomb threat and officers needed to sweep the building.

It led to a school evacuation, with the entire student body having to walk a couple of blocks to St. Anthony's.  In light of the last minute nature of the emergency, most would forgive a little chaos.  But there was one problem.

Police had received the threat over the weekend.

Schenectady police admit that the bomb threat was received Sunday, and that the district was not notified until the Monday morning school bell had nearly run.

Police say they found nothing in the sweep of the school and students were walked back over to Yates mid-morning.

Public information officer Mark McCracken said the department isn't talking about this right now, but acknowledges there was a "communication error".
