The 2013 Saratoga Palio
SARATOGA SPRINGS - The Saratoga Palio: Melanie Merola O'Donnell Memorial Race on Sunday drew over 2000 runners this year.
In its eighth year, the race features the Capital Region's premiere half marathon and 5K run/walk, both of which go through the heart of Saratoga Springs. The Saratoga Palio is exciting for both serious runners and families. Kids can also get into the spirit by participating in the 100-meter fun run.
The race is the main fundraising arm of The Melanie Foundation that awards annual scholarships to graduate-level students in the mental health field that best demonstrate a commitment to helping others in a manner consistent with Melanie Merola O'Donnell's values of compassion, generosity, and respect. This year's scholarship recipients are: Magda Permut, Katherine Sanchez Castejon, Keira Moore, Kevin O'Leary, and Jessica Bodie.
The Melanie Foundation is also proud to share its success with other community charities. Each year a different nonprofit organization is chosen, and this year Jake's Help From Heaven Foundation will benefit. Jake's Help From Heaven Foundation supports those with multiple medical challenges and disabilities. The ultimate goal of this nonprofit organization is to assist individuals affected by debilitating illnesses.
