Albany Man to be Sentenced After Admitting to Sexual Abuse in Museum Bathroom
ALBANY -- A 22-year-old Albany man will be sentenced Wednesday after admitting to a judge he sexually abused a 6-year-old boy.
Edward Tubbs Jr. plead guilty in Albany County Court to sexually abusing a boy in a restroom at the New York State Museum on June 3rd.
The 6-year-old was from Cambridge Elementary school and was on a kindergarten field trip.
Police say the child's mother was a chaperone and waited outside the bathroom, unaware that he was being victimized by Tubbs.
Police arrested Tubbs and charged him with first-degree sexual abuse, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Tubbs is facing at least 4 years in state prison followed by post release supervision, and once he is released from jail he will be forced to register as a sex offender.
Since the incident the New York State Museum has made some security changes to ensure the safety of young children, especially during school field trips.
Two facilities are now designated family bathrooms, so now parents and chaperones can enter the restroom safely with a child of the opposite sex.
In addition, museum security has stepped up their patrols, especially near the bathrooms, and the museum says there will be greater coordination with the State police who arrested Tubbs.
