Glenville Police investigate string of daytime burglaries

UPDATE: Authorities say a female suspect in a string of burglaries is in custody and has been questioned. She will be arraigned on Thursday at 5 p.m. We will continue to update this story as information becomes available.

GLENVILLE -- Detectives are investigating eight burglaries in Glenvilles east side near Pashley Elementary over the past two months. Police say the suspects usually enter a home during the daytime by breaking in a rear door or window.

Just locking your home doesn't mean the person is not going to get in.  They are cutting screens, they are breaking small windows, some of the burglaries some of the homes had small fame windows that were broken so you can reach in and open it, said Lt. Stephen Janik with the Glenville Police Department.

In most cases the thieves have gotten away with jewelry and cash, but in two instances they also took small electronics.

Police are asking for residents to contact them if they see suspicious activity. In several cases when officers questioned neighbors they saw something out of the ordinary, but didnt call 911.

If you see it, report it, said Janik. We're asking for the public's help because there's nothing more that we would like to do as an agency than to make an arrest before another burglary occurs.

Janik said they are looking at two suspects, but so far have not made any arrests.
