Driver Crashes Into House in Chatham

CHATHAM -- Luckily no one was home, when a truck crashed into a house in Chatham on Saturday morning.
 
Around 2:25 AM on Saturday, Troopers were sent to Railroad Avenue in the Village of Chatham for a pickup truck which crashed into a house. When Troopers arrived they found that the driver of the vehicle attempt to flee the scene.

The driver, Louis VanAlstyne Jr., 46 years old, of Chatham, was apprehended by Troopers after a short foot pursuit. VanAlstyne was uninjured and refused medical attention from Chatham Fire and Rescue on the scene. The residence was unoccupied at the time of the accident.

VanAlstyne faces charges of Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal to Take Breath Test, Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent, Failure to Keep Right and multiple other vehicle and traffic law violations. VanAlstyne was arraigned in the Town of Ghent Court by Town Justice Harrison and was remanded to Columbia County Jail in lieu of $5000.00 cash or $10,000 bond.
