Small plane flips in NY cornfield; pilot unhurt

PALATINE (AP) -- A pilot is okay after his single-engine plane flipped over in a Montgomery County cornfield during an emergency landing less than a mile from a rural airstrip.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Investigator Joseph Kilmartin tells the Daily Gazette of Schenectady (http://bit.ly/1czdSa9 ) that the aircraft took off from Hiserts Airpark in the town of Palatine just after 5 p.m. Wednesday. The engine cut out, and the pilot brought the plane down.

Kilmartin said the pilot wasn't significantly injured and there were no passengers. He didn't release the pilot's name.

A Federal Aviation Administration investigation is pending.
