New sewer project saves power, money
ALBANY COUNTY -- A new green project is expected to save Albany County a lot of green of its own.
The countys sewer district unveiled a new combined heat-to-power system on Wednesday at the North Waste-Water Treatment Plant in Menands. The new power generator runs off the heat created by the waste.
This environmentally-friendly technology supposedly cuts down on power consumption from the grid. It is expected to save the county about $400,000 a year in energy costs.
