Discrimination discovered in Schenectady school district
SCHENECTADY -- New findings show a disturbing discovery of discrimination in the Schenectady City School District.
The U.S. Department of Education found that 14 elementary school teachers in the district referred African-American and Hispanic students to special education while ignoring similar academic and behavior problems of white students.
The district acknowledges the problem and has agreed to make changes so that all students, regardless of race, are treated equally and fairly in the special education evaluation process.
