Veterans call center warns of fraud alert

Veterans beware of a fraud alert where a marketing company hopes for a misdialed number.

In a post on the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Facebook page, officials are warning that a marketing company has set up two numbers that are very similar and either has numbers revered, or is off by one number.  Once called the person on the other line attempts to obtain personal information and credit card numbers.

Then the answering party may even transfer the call to the VA call center.

The Veterans Benefit call centers want to make callers aware they will never ask for banking information over the phone.

The numbers to avoid are 1 800-872-1000 and 1 888-442-4511.

If you are attempting to contact the VA National Call Center, the phone number is 1 800 827-1000.

If you are attempting to contact the VA GI Bill Call Center, the phone number is 1 888 442-4551.
