Vt. students compete in 'Lego League' tournament

NORTHFIELD, Vt. (AP) -- Teams of students from across Vermont are competing with each other using robotic Lego building blocks.

Norwich University is hosting the First Lego League regional qualifying tournament on Saturday.

Seventeen teams with more than 150 students aged 9-14 from all over Vermont are taking part.

Competitors will consider the effects of storms, quakes, waves and other natural disasters during challenges that will be answered by using special, robotic Lego building blocks.

The event is designed to inspire children in science and technology through the use of robotics.

The competition is judged in project presentation, robot performance, technical design and programming of the robot.

The top teams from qualify for the New Hampshire championship event, held on Dec.  7.
