Vandals strike grieving family

The message waiting for Bill Bakaitis of Hoosick Falls when he went to his vehicle Thursday morning was disturbing.  He ran back inside to get his wife, Anne.

He said somebody wrote on our car, Anne recalls.  They wrote Anne, you killed your daughter.

The words caused Anne to have an emotional breakdown.

I was crying.  I physically threw up in the driveway.  It just made me sick.

Anne and Bill lost their 18 year old daughter, Brooke, due to complications after a knee operation.

I just really want to know who would do something so malicious, says Anne.  Its still so fresh, not two years since we lost our daughter to a pulmonary embolism from surgery.

Neighbor Leo LaPerle found the same message scrawled on his truck Thursday morning.

The officers said maybe they thought they had the right vehicle and when they didn't, they came down and etched the same thing on their vehicle, explains LaPerle.

Anne says they reported the incidents to police, who said there wasn't much they could do to track down the culprits.  Anne and Bill are hopeful someone who knows something will come forward.  Theyre upset about what happened to their car but realize theres someone else out there missing Brooke like they do.

If there's a teenager upset that Brooke has passed, we're all upset that Brook has passed. Come talk to me. Come grieve with me.  Dont do something malicious because its just hurting us more.
