Troy Turkey Trot security
TROY -- Troy Police are going the extra mile to keep people safe for this year's Turkey Trot.
They met with the NYPD's terrorism bureau, and on Thursday, new security measures will be in place.
-Backpacks will not be permitted (with the exception for one liter, or less, hydration packs).
-Costumes covering the face will not be permitted. Also discouraged are bulky costumes that may interfere with others.
-Runners' bags should be safely secured in vehicles. Any items that need to be carried into the vicinity must be in a clear plastic bag. Runners have the option of checking items at the Trot's "baggage check" located in the Troy Atrium. Clear plastic bags will be available at that location if runners do not have one.
-All bags and packages left unattended at the start, finish or along the race route are subject to examination and/or removal.
-Spectators will not be allowed on the sidewalks adjacent to the start on Fourth Street between Fulton Street and Broadway.
Troy Police understand these changes could present some challenges Tuesday, but say their goal is to ensure safety and security of both runners and spectators.
