Police search for clues in Schenectady shooting

SCHENECTADY -- The Schenectady Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place just before midnight on Tuesday evening near Mont Pleasant Middle School.

Officers found William Riddick, 24, near 1121 Forest Road with a possible gun shot wound to his upper body. He was transported to Ellis Hospital via Mohawk Ambulance and then transferred to Albany Med in critical condition. Authorities reported that Riddick died from his injuries on Wednesday morning.

CBS6 crews also saw a car with its windows blown out in a field behind Mont Pleasant Middle School. Police say shell casings were found on nearby Norwood Avenue, as well as First and Orchard. No casings were found in the field the victim had apparently crashed into.

Officials have secured the scene and say school will run as scheduled. They say the shooting has no connection to the school.
