Rotterdam EMS Contract Set to Expire Tuesday

ROTTERDAM -- The Rotterdam emergency medical service contract will expire at midnight Tuesday morning. If Rotterdam EMS does not win the bid for the new contract, 47 EMS workers could be without a job come December.

Rotterdam has decided to turn to Mohawk Ambulance temporarily.

Mohawk Ambulance answers to about 50,000 calls a year in the Capital Region.

Critics say this decision could impact public safety and stretch already thin emergency resources, but the town of Rotterdam says switching gears and using Mohawk Ambulance could save up to $700,000 per year.

The community is invited to share their thoughts on the EMS changes. It will be held Monday night at 7 p.m. at Pine Wood Elementary school. That's located at 901 Kings Road in Rotterdam.
