DOT : Closed bridge reopens to traffic
UPDATE: The bridge that connects Waterford to North Troy has been re-opened to traffic.
Officials from DOT say a cable has been installed to carry the tension load from a cracked beam.
A 1 inch crack was discovered in a support beam during the bridge's bi-annual inspection, leading to the closure of the bridge Friday night.
The bridge reopened to traffic around 5:00 p.m. Saturday.
According to NYSDOT spokesman Bryan Viggiani, a small crack in a metal beam was noted during a Tuesday inspection of the bridge connecting Waterford and Troy - a crack that Viggiani says led to a review and the decision Thursday afternoon to close the bridge to all traffic, including foot traffic.
The closure happened around 4 p.m. There was no indication when the bridge would again be in operation.
