Appeal denied for owner accused of insurance fraud
ALBANY -- An appeal was denied in a case of insurance fraud against the former owner of the Saratoga Winners nightclub.
Investigators say Akiva Abraham tried to collect a $380,000 insurance policy he had on the building despite knowing that the fire that destroyed it had been intentionally set. The policy was taken out shortly before the 2009 fire.
Abrahams attorneys argued there was not enough evidence to prove the fraud. On Tuesday, the New York Court of Appeals shot down that argument.
