Upstate NY DA: Cooperstown gunman captured in Va.

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities say a former employee of a Cooperstown baseball memorabilia store has been captured in Virginia after being sought for pulling a handgun on his ex-boss inside the shop.

Otsego County District Attorney John Muehl tells The Daily Star of Oneonta Tuesday that 62-year-old Barry Renert of Seminole County, Fla., was captured by police in Richmond. Meel says Renert was taken into custody near a bus station, and a rented vehicle he had used to flee upstate New York was found nearby.

Police say Renert was armed with a handgun when he walked into the Seventh Inning Stretch on Main Street in Cooperstown Monday morning. Officials say the store's owner pulled out his own gun and fired once at Renert, missing him.

Renert is expected to be charged with menacing and burglary.
