Elected officials speak to young students

SCOTIA -- A group of Lincoln Elementary students got an up close view of how government works on Monday.

U.S. Representative Paul Tonko and New York State Assemblyman James Tedisco spoke with social studies classes in Scotia about government. The representatives talked to the fifth graders about the way government functions at both the federal and local levels and about issues they face in office.

The classes have been working on a bill-writing project that was shared with the visitors. In addition to Tonko and Tedisco, the kids also heard from newly elected County Legislator Rory Fluman.
