Ribbons handed out to raise drunk driving awareness

ALBANY --Across the Thruway, 65,000 red ribbons will be handed out this weekend.

The handout is part of the New York State Thruway Authority and Mothers Against Drunk Driving's annual campaign to prevent drunk driving. The event honors those who were killed and injured at the hands of drunk drivers, and the ribbons are meant to be displayed by drivers to raise public awareness of the danger of impaired driving.

Among those in attendance at the press conference for the event was Matt Hardy, a Shen student who survived a horrible crash a year ago that killed two of his high school friends, and injured another. The parents and family of Chris Stewart, one of the students killed, also lent their support.
