Glens Falls march honors deployed military members

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (AP) -- More than 1,000 marchers have completed a 3-mile Christmas Eve trek held in an upstate New York community to honor U.S. military personnel who can't be home for the holidays.

The Post-Star of Glens Falls reports that about 1,400 people took part in the march that began Tuesday morning at the Glens Falls Civic Center and ended back at the downtown arena.

New York National Guard officials say soldiers from the Queensbury Readiness Center and other Albany-area units led the march.

National Guard members who were deployed to Iraq in 2004 were honorary grand marshals for the march, which drew more than 900 participants last year. The marchers included Guard members, their families, veterans and area residents who joined the morning hike.
