Saratoga First Night Celebration
SARATOGA SPRINGS-- Thousands braved the cold temperatures to ring in the new year during First Night. Organizers expected 15,000 to 20,000 people to participate.
We've been to Boston, Burlington and others and this is our favorite here, said Jeanie Ditton, who brought her daughter to the event for the first time.
Several vendors sold coffee, hot chocolate and warm meals along Broadway. Despite seeing fewer pedestrians, business was brisk.
Hot chocolate has actually been our most popular and then we have our homemade pasta, said Chloe Medick, as she hawked items outside Wheatfields.
Indoor events were packed as people tried to stay warm. A small line formed to hear a band inside the Adirondack Trust at Church Street.
Many families packed the City Center where a band, face painting and balloon animals helped pass the time.
The night ended with a fireworks show at the stroke of midnight.
