New snow could hamper recovery effort

LITCHFIELD, Maine (AP) -- Snow is falling today in areas where residents are still waiting to get their power back on following a weekend ice storm.

Southeastern Maine and interior sections of the state are anticipating three to seven inches of snow by the time the latest system pushes off the coast tonight. Utilities are worried that the additional weight on branches and transmission lines could set back their efforts to restore power.

Utilities in Michigan say there are still more than 100,000 homes and businesses without power -- on top of the more than 36,000 in Maine and more than 100,000 in Canada.

Many could be waiting until tomorrow -- or even longer -- to get their lights back on. They lost power during an ice storm last weekend.
