Yassin Aref Tries Another Appeal

ALBANY - Yassin Aref's appeals attorney, Kathy Manley, says FOIL information received by her client shows the government misidentified him as Yassin Muhammed when Aref was targeted in a terrorism sting operation in 2004. Manley says Yassin Muhammed was killed in 2011 while Aref was serving his 15 year prison sentence.  Further, she contends Aref was the subject of "warrantless surveillance."  Manley says, recently, US Attorney General Eric Holder announced a new policy to release warrantless surveillance information to defendants.   Manley believes warrantless surveillance information may have been used to convince judges that Aref was a member of Al Qaeda.  She says Yassin Muhammed was a member of Al Qaeda, not Aref.
