Marine stops shoplifter at Colonie Center

COLONIE -- Authorities say a Marine is responsible for catching a Colonie Center crook.

The incident happened on Thursday at Colonie Center Mall where Private First Class Noah McKnight was on duty. A native of Cohoes, McKnight is currently a recruiter's assistant with the Marine Corps Recruiting Station in Albany.

According to officials, McKnight heard the security alarm go off at a nearby store and saw a suspicious man leaving. "As soon as he saw me," says McKnight, "you could tell by his face that he knew he was in trouble."

McKnight followed the man and was able to grab the bag he was carrying. He also called 911 and continued to follow the alleged shoplifter until police arrived and arrested him. The suspect is accused of stealing more than $700 dollars worth of merchandise.
