NY legislator taking Alzheimer's Foundation post
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- A Republican state senator from Long Island says he's leaving the Legislature to take a position as chief executive of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
Sen. Charles Fuschillo says Tuesday is his final day after almost 16 years where he sponsored legislation to limit unwanted sales calls, ban indoor public smoking and increase penalties for drunken driving.
Fuschillo says he's ready for a new challenge.
A special election is expected to fill the remaining year of his two-year term.
He has been part of the Republican coalition with a handful of Democrats wielding majority control of the chamber.
