Gov. Cuomo rides snowmobile to promote winter tourism
LOWVILLE, N.Y. (AP) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo says New York's new $4.5 million winter tourism ad campaign is aimed at promoting snowmobiling, skiing, and other recreation upstate.
Cuomo spent Monday at a popular snowmobiling spot in New York's North Country to ride a sled and promote winter tourism.
The governor and other state officials visited the Ridgeview in the Lewis County town of Lowville (LOW'-vihl), 60 miles northeast of Syracuse.
Lewis County contains part of the Tug Hill Plateau, a region popular with snowmobilers from across New York and nearby states. It's typically New York's snowiest area and snowmobile trails are a major part of the local economy.
New York officials estimate visitors to the state increased by 8.8 million this year, up 4 percent, spending billions of dollars.
