Tractor trailer and train collide in Schaghticoke

SCHAGHTICOKE - State Police are investigating an accident in Schaghticoke involving a tractor trailer and a train on Fishermans Lane.

The incident happened around 2:00 p.m. Friday. Police say a truck carrying about 25 tons of corn lost traction going downhill colliding with the Norfolk Southern Train.

The impact disconnected the cap from the trailer.

A water rescue team was used to rescue the driver due to the cab dangling over the Hoosic River. Police say the driver was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Troy for evaluation.

ENCON was called in to contain leaking diesel fuel that leaks into the river.  A crane will remove the trailer.

Investigators say they are looking to see if the train blew its whistle, and the circumstances to why the truck lost control.

Fishermans Lane is a dirt road that joins Route 40 to Doty Hill Road.
