NY man admits trying to kill brother-in-law

LOCKPORT, N.Y. (AP) -- A western New York business man has pleaded guilty to attempted murder for trying kill his brother-in-law over a business dispute.

The Niagara Gazette reports that 44-year-old Timothy Depetris also pleaded guilty earlier this week in Niagara County Court to six other charges that included assault and criminal use of a firearm.

Prosecutors say Depetris pleaded guilty to charges related to the shooting of his brother-in-law at the victim's Niagara Falls business last March. The 56-year-old man survived and Depetris was later charged with shooting him.

While jailed on the charges, Depetris was charged with trying to hire a hit man to kill the brother-in-law and a witness to the shooting. Prosecutors say they'll move to dismiss those charges in exchange for his guilty plea to the initial charges.
