Gillibrand, in Albany, pushes paid leave

ALBANY -- US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was in Albany, Monday, pushing a bill that would mandate paid leave for employees.

Gillibrand is pushing the federal bill that would create guaranteed paid family and medical leave. Taxpayers would not support the funding rather it would be a trust fund where employees and employers contribute, the Senator said.

"Choosing between your loved ones, your career, and your future is not a choice our families should have to make." said Gillibrand.

Gilllibrand's proposal calls for employees and bosses to contribute .2%, each, of the employees salary.

In response to the proposal, New York State Director of the National Federation of Independent Business, Mike Durant, said  "It is a mandated expense on businesses that are already offering the best they can for their employees. It would have a negative impact, especially on small businesses."
