Albany student inspired by tragedy to organize blood drive
ALBANY -- Albany High School students are rolling up their sleeves on Thursday for a blood drive.
It's the second one for the school this year. Zilpa Oduor is a student at the school who coordinated the drive. Her family recently moved to the capital region from Kenya.
Oduor used to live near the mall that was overtaken by terrorists last year. She says that it was because of that tragedy that she decided to organize Thursday's blood drive.
The American Red Cross says about 20 percent of the blood used in the United States in donated by students.
