Woman sentenced for killing ex-boyfriend

SARATOGA COUNTY -- A Schuylerville woman who shot her on-again, of-again boyfriend at point-blank range had to be taken out of the court room during her sentencing.

The removal came after she started screaming obscenities at the victim's family members, one of whom was giving her victim impact statement at the time. A recess had to be called in Saratoga County Court after Joey Paul began shouting at Matthew Furlani's mother and other family members.

Paul was later brought back in and sentenced to 18.5 years in prison. She was also sentenced to 5 years of post-release supervision as part of her plea deal.

Paul admitted she shot the 28-year-old Furlani with his AK-47 inside his Church Street apartment in 2012.
