State Police Trooper involved in Northway accident

SARATOGA COUNTY -- A New York State Trooper was injured in a crash Tuesday afternoon which closed two lanes of the Northway for several hours.
Trooper Gary Strothenke was parked off the right shoulder of the Northway southbound between exits 16 and 15 while helping a driver with car trouble.  The driver was in her friend's truck while he tried to change the tire on her car.  Trooper Strothenke was in his Troop car behind both cars with his lights on and flares set.
State Police said a flatbed tow truck registered to AAA Northway and operated by Berakah Smith of Gansevoort drifted toward the right shoulder, sideswiping the Trooper's car before veering right and hitting the disabled car.  The tow truck went down an embankment before stopping in a wooded area. 
Trooper Strothenke and Smith were both transported to Saratoga Hospital where they each were treated and released with minor injuries.  Smith was arraigned on Vehicle and Traffic Law charges in the Town of Wilton Court.
