TSA Precheck available in Albany

ALBANY -- Getting through airport screening could be a lot quicker and easier - if you are willing to pay up.

The Transportation Security Administration is offering a pre-enrollment process that would allow you to side step the normal TSA screening at the airport. For $85, you can become a member of the TSA Precheck program for 5 years.

TSA officials say passengers must give them two forms of ID, along with other, more personal, information. Those who enroll can go through security checks without having to take off their shoes or unpack their bags.

When questioned about the security of the program, both airport officials and TSA staff said passengers should feel safe.

"People are vetted on a flight by flight basis," said TSA Spokesman Lisa Farbstein. "Even if you purchased your ticket three months ago and you are flying today we will continue to vet you through the secure flight program."

A new TSA enrollment office is open at 21 Everett Road Ext.

Albany International Airport is one of more than 100 airports around the country to offer the program. TSA hopes to have 300 airports on board by the summer.
