Police raid Blu-Bell Motel

COLONIE -- Police raided a motel on Thursday, just days after residents were forced to move out of another motel under the same ownership.

Colonie Police and the town attorney were on the scene Thursday morning at the Blu-Bell Motel. The motel is owned by the same man, Alex Patel, who owns the Skylane Motel, which was condemned because of hundreds of code violations.

Officials say the Blu-Bell Motel appears to be even worse than Skylane. They say 80 percent of the rooms are uninhabitable.

"I just couldn't believe what we saw in there, that people would be forced to live that way," says town attorney, Michael Magguilli.

The town is weighing their options, looking into whether further charges could be coming for Patel.

"We need to discuss this with the DA's office," says Magguilli. "We need to determine whether or not some of the actions that were taken at the Skylane and here at Blu-Bell raise to a criminal level. Such things as obstructing government administration, tampering with evidence, there are a number of town violations that we can prosecute."

The owner of the motels also owns a Golden Corral restaurant on Central Avenue.
