Woman charged after 40 animals seized in Town of Durham

TOWN OF DURHAM - The Green County Sheriff's Office have made an arrest in connection to 39 dogs removed from two houses over the weekend.

Police arrested Dawn Verdeschi, 43, who lived at one of the homes at 593 Morrison Road.  She is also listed as a co owner of the other home at 221 Hervey Sunside Road.

She is charged with failing to provided sustinance to the 39 dogs and 1 cat that was removed from the two residences on Sunday.

Investigators say several German Sheppard inside the residence that were kept in small cages containing a large amounts of feces.

There was no apparent food or water for the animals and the only source of heat was a small electric plug-in heater for the house.

Police say there were also several dogs being kept outside on the back porch with no cover from the weather.

Sheriffs Deputies are also looking for 55 year-old Christopher Cella who co-owned the Hervey Sunside Road address.  They say he has ties to Rockland County, as well as a warrant from Rockland County Family Court.

Verdeschi was arraigned in the Town of Durham Court and sent to the  Greene County Jail on $1500 bail.

DURHAM - Two homes were raided on Sunday leading to the seizure of around 40 animals.

Officials say two homes, one at 596 Morrison Road, and 221 Hervey Sunside after a tip from a concerned citizen in Durham.

The Columbia Greene Humane Society removed 39 German Shepherds and 1 cat and have them at the shelter for observation.
