Crews battle fire in Schenectady

SCHENECTADY -- Fire crews in Schenectady had to battle against both fire and ice in an early morning fire on Eight Avenue.

Calls came in to the department around 6 a.m. on Thursday after firefighters had already been out on a call. The home was heavily damaged, though the two people home at the time were able to get out safely.

Firefighters say icy conditions slowed them down, taking them about 30 minutes to get the fire under control. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
