Toddler dies after backhoe accident in western NY

BUTLER, N.Y. (AP) -- Police say a toddler has died after being run over by a backhoe his father was driving in western New York.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office says the accident happened around 8:15 p.m. Monday in the town of Butler, about 45 miles east of Rochester.

The sheriff's office says the toddler was riding on the backhoe seat with his father on the family's property. The boy fell off when the machine took a turn, and he was run over by a rear tire.

The child later died at a hospital. The family's name wasn't released.
