NY casino contenders face application fee deadline

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Groups seeking a license to build one of up to four casinos in upstate New York are facing a deadline to pay a $1 million application fee.

The fee is the first major hurdle for backers of several casino projects intended for the Catskills, the Albany-Saratoga region and the Southern Tier. A state gambling panel will pick up to four winning applications in the fall.

The Catskills region has attracted several contenders. Caesars Entertainment, Trading Cove New York, Empire Resorts and a group proposing a casino at the site of the old Nevele resort have all submitted application fees.

The owners of Traditions Resort and Conference Center have also submitted the fee for their Southern Tier proposal.

The complete list of those submitting fees is expected to be released Thursday.
