Woman needs 14 stitches after bitten by raccoon
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) -- A Vermont woman says she needed 14 stitches and a rabies vaccination after a raccoon bit her hands, arms and leg in an unprovoked attack.
Authorities haven't found the raccoon yet.
Charlene Wallace of Burlington tells WCAX-TV she was outside her home Saturday, opening the back door of her car to remove some snow tires, when the raccoon started biting her. She said she was able to shake it off her hand, but then it jumped up again and bit her leg, causing her to fall. She was able to kick the animal away.
The Vermont Health Department says 13 animals have tested positive for rabies across the state so far this year. Most were raccoons.
