Openly gay player drafted into NFL
NEW YORK (AP) - For the first time, an openly gay player has been drafted by a pro football team.
Michael Sam was picked Saturday by the St. Louis Rams in
the seventh round of the NFL draft.
Sam played college football at the University of Missouri. He is considered by scouts to be too short to play defensive end, his position at Mizzou. They also say he's slow for a linebacker - the position he'll likely play in the pros - and will have to improve his speed to play there professionally.
Sam came out as gay in media interviews earlier this year.
