Police: Man rear ends Green Island Police car

GREEN ISLAND - A man is in custody after allegedly intentionally ramming a Green Island police officer's cruiser.

Police say Officer William Rice was parked in his cruiser on Friday on Lower Hudson Avenue, when 29 year-old James Knowles intentionally rammed his 1998 Audi into his cruiser from behind.

Then police say,  Knowles then got out of his vehicle and began to assault Officer Rice, attempting to take his weapon.  Officer Rice held him off until a passing motorist and a State Trooper who happened to be in the area assisted.

Knowles was arraigned in Green Island Town Court and sent to the Albany County Jail without bail.  He's charged with vehicular assault, assault and reckless endangerment.

Officer Bell was treated and released from Albany Medical Center.
