Milton man convicted of kidnapping

SARATOGA COUNTY -- A Milton man has been found guilty on kidnapping charges after authorities say he held a woman captive for hours in a remote location last summer.

A jury found Ryan Place, 27, guilty on multiple counts of kidnapping and attempted kidnapping on Monday. Investigators say Place held a woman against her will last July.

The woman apparently had a previous relationship with Place, but had broken up with him. Investigators determined Place dragged the woman by her hair, beat her repeatedly and made her dig a shallow grave with her bare hands. He also threatened to kill her or leave her for dead.

Authorities say the woman was eventually able to get away on her own.

Place faces 25 years in prison when he is sentenced in August.
