Funeral services for a man dedicated to Columbia County

COPAKE - Service for a well respected deputy sheriff was held on Sunday night.

70 year old Thomas Kane, from Hillsdale passed away suddenly on Wednesday. 

From 1984 to the present, Kane served as a deputy with the Columbia County Sheriffs Department. His history of service goes farther back, working for the Columbia County Highway Department and the New York State Department of Parks and Recreation at Lake Taghkanic and in Copake Falls.

Kane was very active in his community once serving as Hillsdale Justice and town councilman as well as a member of the Hillsdale Fire Company, past chief and current fire commissioner. He was a board member of the Community Rescue Squad, a county and town Republican Committeeman and had served as Police Chief for the town of Copake.

Kane will be laid to rest on Monday.
