Saratoga Springs man accused of sexual abuse

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- A Skidmore Campus Safety Officer was arrested on Thursday after police say they found a woman passed out at his house.

Authorities say they received a call just after 3 p.m. requesting medical assistance at the home of Robert Gardner, 62, on Lincoln Avenue. When they arrived, they found a 26-year-old woman, highly intoxicated and not alert on the back porch of the house. The woman was taken to Saratoga Hospital.

Officers conducted a preliminary investigation and say that Gardner's story didn't seem to match what they saw. After further investigation, Gardner was arrested and charged with sexual abuse and unlawful surveillance.

Authorities believe Gardner had sexual contact with the victim while she was unconscious and physically helpless. They also say he took pictures of the woman on hi cell phone just 15 minutes before he contacted police.

Skidmore officials say Gardner, who has worked for the school for 35 years, has been suspended without pay, pending the outcome of the charges. The school emphasizes that they take any allegations of sex assault very seriously.
