NY state lawmaker pleads guilty, must resign

NEW YORK (AP) -- A New York state lawmaker has pleaded guilty to federal charges in a deal that requires her to resign from office.

Assemblywoman Gabriela Rosa pleaded guilty Friday to lying to immigration authorities about her marital relationship in 2005.

The Democrat, who has represented Upper Manhattan, also pleaded guilty to making false statements in a bankruptcy petition in 2009.

The 47-year-old has agreed not to contest any sentence between a year and 18 months. She will be sentenced on Oct. 3.
